Boss Galaga (also known as Galagan Commander) is an enemy in the Galaxian (series) series. It is a high-ranking fly-like alien commando from Galaga that projects a beam of light to capture your fighter. Boss Galagas travel with Goei, which will behave the same with no regard to if the Boss Galaga has been defeated or not. The Boss Galaga originated in Galaga, assuming a similar role to the Galaxian Flagship seen previously in Galaxian. In Galaga '88, Boss Galagas can capture dual fighters in one attack. In Gaplus, they are referred to as Queens, but function identically to their Galaga mechanics.

Galaga Wars[]

Boss Galaga appear in Galaga Wars as basic enemies. They take two hits to kill. Boss Galaga will shoot giant laser blasts at the player. These blasts explode like bombs after a few seconds, so players should watch out.

The Boss Galaga in this game lack the ability to capture players. However, at random intervals, a variant of the Boss Galaga will appear near the top of the screen, with a captured ship calling for help behind it. This variant is red and black and takes three hits to kill. If the player can kill this Boss Galaga quick enough, the captured ship can be saved to create a double ship for a limited time. The ship it can tow is most commonly a Fighter, but has a slight chance to tow a Galaxip, Solvalou, or FX-01.

Other Games[]

Boss Galaga has appeared in several games outside of the Galaga series. It appears as an item in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/WiiU and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, where it uses its tractor beam to pull opponents to the top of the screen. Pac-Man's grab attack in both games is an homage to Boss Galaga's tractor beam. In Xeno Fighters EX, the Capture Beam used by Boss Galaga is used by the Gyaraga as a weapon to capture small enemy fighters.
